Principal R&D Scientist - Life Sciences

Berkshire Up to c.£45,000 Full-time On-site lab-based role

We`re excited to be recruiting for an experienced Principal R&D Scientist to join an innovative life sciences team based in Berkshire. This is a fantastic opportunity for a skilled scientist with hands on ELISA experience to take ownership of high-impact research projects and provide technical leadership to a growing R&D function. You`ll lead experimental design, oversee assay development, and support junior scientists in a collaborative and forward thinking environment.

About the Role

As a Principal R&D Scientist, you`ll play a key role in the planning and execution of scientific projects across the ELISA product portfolio. You`ll lead on assay development, troubleshoot technical issues, and drive improvements in processes and performance. With a strong focus on innovation and quality, you`ll also support wider business functions by providing technical expertise and insights.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, plan, and conduct laboratory experiments to support product development
• Lead and manage assigned projects with minimal supervision
• Develop and maintain ELISA assays, suggesting improvements where needed
• Analyse, interpret, and present experimental data to internal and external stakeholders
• Provide training, mentoring, and supervision to R&D Technicians
• Support purification and conjugation processes (experience with AKTA systems desirable)
• Collaborate cross functionally with other departments on technical matters
• Contribute to ongoing R&D meetings and strategic discussions

About You

• BSc (or higher) in a relevant scientific discipline
• At least 5 years` experience in an industrial R&D setting
• Proven experience in ELISA design and development
• Skilled in experiment planning, data analysis, and scientific reporting
• Comfortable presenting data to varied audiences
• Experience in mentoring or supervising junior staff
• Knowledge of protein purification and conjugation techniques (desirable)
• Strong problem-solving, time management, and communication skills
• Collaborative mindset with the ability to work independently
