Other - c£70,000 per annum. This salary is for 0.7fte time commitment (pro rata) of a full-time equivalent salary of c£100,000 (ESM 1 scale is currently £100,000 to £113,625 depending upon experience). 

Contracted Hours: 0.7fte part-time (25.2 hours of a 36 hour week).

Contract Type: Permanent - Secondment of 2 years minimum also welcome

Location: Based at Second Floor, 2 Redman Place, London, E20 1JQ (hybrid working with notable home working, subject to business need)

About the Human Tissue Authority

The Human Tissue Authority’s (HTA’s) primary goal is to protect public and professional confidence in the safe and ethical use of human tissue.

We are the national independent regulator for organisations that remove, store and use tissue for research, medical treatment, post-mortem examination, teaching, and public display. We also approve organ and bone marrow donations from living people. With the interests of the public and those we regulate at the centre of our work, we aim to maintain confidence by ensuring that human tissue is used safely and ethically, with proper consent.

We are now looking for a Director of Finance and Resources to join us on a permanent basis.

What you will bring

To be considered as a Director of Finance and Resources, you will need:

- To be a qualified accountant recognised by a professional accounting body (e.g., CCAB body / CIMA or equivalent)
- Significant experience of successful leadership and achievement at a senior level in the public or regulatory sector
- Experience in a senior resources role, including a track record of successful financial management and production of annual reports and accounts
- Proven experience of working and contributing at Board level
- Strong interpersonal and influencing skills, with the ability to communicate complex financial information to non-finance stakeholders

What you’ll be doing

As a Director of Finance and Resources, you will lead the finance, payroll, and procurement functions, as well as the HR provision, for HTA.

This is a senior level role that operates as part of the SMT and reports to the CEO and Board, making a considerable contribution to achieving HTA strategic aims.

Ensuring the development and maintenance of effective financial policies and procedures, you will deliver a portfolio encompassing finance, procurement, payroll, audit, facilities health & safety and oversight of HR delivery.

You will also provide specific financial assurance to the Accounting Officer (Chief Executive), lead on external and internal audits, oversee risk management processes, and support the Audit & Risk Committee of the Board.

Additionally, you will:

- Take lead responsibility for facilities, health and safety, and environmental issues
- Oversee HR policy and delivery, supported by the HR shared services provided through a service level agreement
- Lead, motivate, and manage a small diverse team, delivering key corporate services
- Represent us on DHSC/ALB forums, including Finance, HR, and Property/Facilities
