Job Description

We are Onward, a leading provider of quality and affordable homes for rent, shared ownership and sale across the North West. Proud to do so much more than just provide a roof over our customers’ heads, we own and manage over 35,000 homes and are one of the largest registered providers of social housing based solely in the North West of England. We have a clear vision ‘To make a positive difference in the communities we serve’ and our many ambitions include plans to build 500 new homes a year.

It’s an exciting time to join Onward. Earlier this year we raised £215m of investment through our first bond issue, securing an exceptional A1 credit rating from Moody’s. The investment will underpin our business plan for the years ahead, as we deliver considerable social, environmental and economic impact. In 2020 we demonstrated our strong financial and governance credentials by retaining the top G1 and V1 ratings from the Regulator of Social Housing. 

There is now an opportunity for two new Non-Executive Directors to join us. For one of the roles, we are looking for expertise in leading and delivering large scale organisational change, allied with experience of implementing a customer focused ICT strategy. The second opportunity requires a qualified accountant with a background in audit supplemented by wider business experience gained from senior financial leadership roles. The successful candidate will ideally have the ambition to Chair our Audit and Risk Committee in the future.

For both opportunities, we are looking for leaders who thrive when adding considerable strategic value beyond their area of technical expertise. Exposure to large, complex, customer-centric organisations is essential, and insight into a regulated environment would be highly desirable. Your positive, commercially astute approach will be valued here at Onward, and you’ll bring the right balance of challenge and support to ensure the highest standards of integrity and corporate governance.
