What is the Role?
SSE Renewables Engineering & Innovation team provide a wide range of specialist engineering and technical services to support the business including through life cycle asset management. We drive SSE Renewables Innovation agenda and take responsibility for Design Assurance as well as the resourcing and delivery of all engineering requirements across the capital portfolio. We are also focused on creating an engineering Centre of Excellence for SSE Renewables
As our Floating Wind Structural Technical Engineer you will provide technical direction for structures, piles, and mooring systems for our portfolio of offshore floating wind projects, providing key input into the key decision process.
Some of your other main accountabilities will include:
Providing technical guidance and expert opinion and approval across a portfolio of offshore wind generation projects.
Ensuring that project technology choice and design have achieved an optimum techno-economic solution to support the overall project delivery, and maximise returns in a competitive market environment, whilst pursuing longer term engineering innovations to support SSE’s growth strategy and competitive advantage.
Supporting the development and execution of the structural engineering aspects of our Floating Wind Technology development strategy, to deliver commercially ready engineering solutions for the 1st generation of commercial scale floating offshore wind projects at SSE.
Undertaking the assessment and evaluation of available structural and fabrication options, developing technical supplier relationships to progress projects specific solution development and define research and innovation opportunities and quantify infrastructure and equipment requirements.
Ensuring the design standards are being integrated into the projects and that risks are being managed, whilst defining and facilitating the Verification and Validation activities for the structural package during design and construction.
What do I need?
To be considered for this role, we would love you to have:
Chartered Engineer status and Engineering Council membership.
Significant experience and exposure of high capacity structure, piling and mooring design in the offshore sector for Renewables or Oil and Gas applications.
Outstanding interpersonal, influencing and communication skills, which you'll be capable of adapting to all management levels and situations, and specifically where there is a need to manage, mediate and influence in high pressure environments.
Excellent organisation skills will be essential, along with the ability to deliver quality work to the agreed timescales.
A good understanding of the commercial context and implications of engineering activities and decisions will also be necessary.
