About the job
Dstl is standing up a new Science and Technology (S&T) Division. The Exploration Division brings together organisations who will identify, assess and promote the generation after next technology. They'll focus on transformative technology, systems, concepts and strategy for Defence and Security. The Division will also sustain state of the art capabilities in wargaming & simulation, systems thinking, scenario planning, analytics and social research.
As the Division Head you will lead the entire Division; setting and communicating strategic direction and vision and ensuring the safe, secure, resilient and efficient delivery of Science and Technology (S&T) to time, cost and quality in order to realise benefits for Defence and Security.
As well as being an active member of the Dstl Executive Management Committee, recommending and contributing to the development of corporate policies and strategies, you'll ensure the effective management of capability, employees and programme and project delivery. You’ll have direct line management of 3 senior leaders and indirect management of the 300 Divisional employees and a budget of £50 million.
Our work in defence, security and intelligence requires our employees to be British Citizens who are able to gain a high level of security clearance to understand the work you will undertake to protect us from any security threats. For this reason, we regret that only UK Nationals will be able to apply for this role. If you are an international or dual-national candidate, and you think you have the skills we need, please consider applying to any of our government, security or defence partners across the enterprise. We work closely with the Defence and Security Industry on many projects, so it would be great to work with you via one of our partners.
This role will require full UK security clearance and you should have resided in the UK for the past 5 years.
We're looking for someone who has an excellent understanding of the Defence and Security area, with experience of leading strategic business transformation and change.
With outstanding leadership skills, you'll build and maintain critical customer and supplier relationships, ensuring the development and maturation of these relationships, alongside near-term delivery and future capability requirements. Day to day, you will be responsible for the delivery of the Divisions Strategic Objectives along with programmes and projects while promoting joint working across Dstl and mitigating the risks inherent in novel projects. Whilst maintaining a highly visible presence, you'll create a positive working environment which supports diversity and enables staff to excel.
You'll be based at a core Dstl site, mainly in the office, but the role will require significant flexibility and agility to adapt to changing priorities. This will include some travel to customers, suppliers and other Dstl sites. At this time most employees are working from home, only working on site if necessary.
