We are reviewing our brand here at Dstl and setting out a bold new vision for Communications for the Government agency that leads the science inside UK national security. 

A key part of that strategy will be our engagement with partners, ensuring we have the right mechanisms in place to engage and that our messages and calls to action are clear. 

As our brand ambassador you will lead on devising, planning and delivering the campaigning heartbeat of our outreach to our key partner, customer and supplier communities as well as scripting the next chapters in our exciting brand story.
As a relationship marketing specialist, you will seek out high value contacts and collate the key insight and intelligence to drive and deliver our marketing plan, which you will then craft, own and deliver through imaginative and innovative campaigns and customer-centric activity that adds real value and reach to our collaborative relationships. 

Working across everything from sector trade shows to key partner visits, you will develop compelling campaigns and activity that not only supports, but truly develops our brand identity as the key agency for Science in the Defence and Security of the UK. 

You will find the ways to celebrate, share and evolve Dstl’s core values of innovation, collaboration and impact, carefully positioning Dstl with all key external audiences in relation to our outstanding offer as a true national asset. 

This is an active role in which you will be a key presence at important events and will lead as an active partner in developing exciting event programmes and plans as well as role modelling great marketing and best marketing practice for the wider organisation.

Job description

In this role you will be:
•Owning and developing the Dstl brand identity. You’ll be ensuring that Dstl is promoted and positioned to maximise the awareness of our brand with Dstl’s key audiences and partners.
•Managing and coordinating event planning for the organisation. You’ll help to develop a corporate events' calendar. This will help in Identifying appropriate events to attend at a corporate level that will promote the work of Dstl to specific audiences. These include the MOD and Government customers, commercial and academic partners, our network of 1,500 suppliers, media and public audiences to raise our profile as the national asset.
•Developing appropriate marketing plans. Aligning these plans to business objectives to promote Dstl’s work and collaboration to its various audiences and partners, using appropriate tools, audience insight, measurement and evaluation. Taking a campaign approach for interactions with key target audiences.
•Collaborating with our in-house Creative team. You will be providing a vision to support the development of compelling new marketing collateral. This will be both print and digital, and in line with agreed marketing/communications activity and branding guidelines.
•Developing and communicating a compelling brand story. Working with the wider Communications and Strategic Engagement teams to promote the narrative to Dstl’s various audiences.
•Working closely with our Strategic Engagement team. You’ll be supporting the alignment of engagement activity and consistency of messaging for all external facing communications. You’ll also be collecting key customer and partner sentiment and insight to drive future activity and changes.
•Linking in with the wider MOD and defence communications community. In particular the Defence Directorate Communications team to drive alignment, commonality and opportunity across the wider defence and government communications campaigns and marketing arena.


We are looking for someone who has:
• Knowledge and experience of crafting and implementing sparkling, innovative and outstanding marketing plans to meet business needs and objectives.
• Experience of leading, developing and implementing a range of appropriate marketing activities across various channels and for difference audience groups.
• Experience of driving marketing targeted at, and collaborating closely with, key audience groups.
• Brand development and narrative experience – experience and expertise in developing organisational storylines and storytelling.
• Expertise in collaborating with design agencies or in house creative teams to develop targeted marketing and communications collateral (print and digital) within corporate branding guidelines.
• Successful experience of planning, organising and handling large events, conferences and exhibitions.
• Expertise in providing direction for photography and video to reach difference audiences.
• Experience in collaborative working across diverse teams and across complex organisational boundaries to ensure consistency of external facing communications, marketing activity and messaging.

This vacancy is using Success Profiles, and will assess your Behaviours and Experience.
