Do you want to play a leading role in advising the Government on a range of issues relating to biometrics and forensic data?

The BFEG is an independent advisory non departmental public body that provides independent, ethical advice to Home Office Ministers on issues related to the use of biometrics and forensics and the differentiation and identification of individuals. The BFEG was established 2017, and the group’s remit builds and expands upon that of its predecessor body the National DNA Database Ethics Group.

The advice required of the BFEG will now include the provision of ethical advice, at a strategic level, on all aspects of biometrics and forensics which fall within the purview of the Home Office. As a member of the BFEG, you will contribute towards the development and delivery of independent and expert advice to Government.

To complement its existing skills and knowledge, the BFEG is seeking up to nine new members with expertise in evaluating and considering ethical issues in one of the following, or closely related, areas: genetics; forensic science; biometric data; data protection and the ethics of consent, including working with large data sets; experimental design; police service; social science; political science/political scientist medical science or the law.

You will possess strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to work collaboratively with committee members and stakeholders and to actively and constructively contribute to discussions, negotiating between conflicting opinions and values and generating options to reach consensus.
